How do I purchase a gun online and what is an FFL?
Purchasing a firearm online is similar to buying other merchandise online, but there are a few important differences. Following is a brief explanation of how the process works, followed by the steps you need to take.
The most important thing to understand about online firearm purchases is that a firearm cannot be shipped to you directly. Federal law requires that we only ship to a federally licensed firearms dealer - sometimes known as an FFL. Most FFL holders will perform transfers for other licensed firearm dealers (like delmarvaguns.com), for a nominal fee paid by the buyer. Before we will ship any firearm, you MUST contact a local FFL-holder and arrange for them to accept the delivery on your behalf and conduct the transfer. Make sure all fees to be paid by you the buyer are understood and agreed upon PRIOR to your purchase from us. Once we verify your FFL, we will ship the handgun or rifle to their business address. Upon receipt, your FFL will contact you to complete any state-mandated paperwork, and arrange for the transfer to you. It might sound complicated, but it's actually a very smooth process.
Here are the steps:
STEP 1: Contact a local dealer and arrange for them to conduct the transfer. (Need help finding a dealer? Visit www.FFLfinder.com)
STEP 2: Place your order on our secure website 24 hours a day 7 days a week, or contact us during business hours at 1-302-539-3730. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.
STEP 3: Have the dealer FAX their federal firearms license to us at 732-791-1412. Have your FFL-holder include your name and telephone number on the FAX so we can match it to your order.
STEP 4: We ship your new firearm to your local FFL-holder, along with a copy of our federal firearms license. We will e-mail a tracking number as soon as the firearm is shipped.
